Get Organized, Grow Fast: How to Structure Marketing for Startup Success 👾

#18 — All things Structuration for Startups.Learn how to structure marketing for startups with proven strategies and actionable insights. Discover step-by-step tips to organize your marketing efforts, boost conversions, and drive growth.

Hello there,

When it comes to marketing, I've seen two common approaches:

  1. Doing Nothing:
Some companies simply don’t act, even when their leaders know marketing is critical.

  2. Shooting in the Dark:
Others throw money at ads, social media, trade shows, and more—often just because they've seen others do it.

Both approaches suffer from one major flaw: lack of structure.

For the first group, inaction stops progress.
For the second, scattered efforts dilute results.

Structuring your marketing isn’t just about organization—it gives your actions meaning and multiplies your results.

So, how do you structure your marketing effectively? Let’s break it down.

1️⃣ Gather Your Data

You can’t steer what you don’t measure.
Start by diving into your numbers to understand where to focus:

  • Inquiries: How many leads are you receiving?

  • Proposals Sent: Track your outreach.

  • Contracts Signed: These are your core indicators.

  • Conversion Rate: (Contracts signed á Inquiries received)

  • Average Sale Value: How much does a customer spend on average?

  • Customer Retention: Measure loyalty over time.

  • Lifetime Value: Total spend per customer over their relationship with you.

Even if you begin with a simple spreadsheet, record everything.

Extra Tip: Always ask your prospects how they found you. This insight will help you allocate your resources better.

2️⃣ Clarify Your Fundamentals

If your foundation isn’t solid, nothing else will hold up.

Know Your Target:
Don’t just say “B2B companies in tech.”
Dig deeper—understand their challenges, needs, and where they get their information.

Define Your Positioning and Value Proposition:
If your audience doesn’t get what you do and how you’re different, your marketing efforts will fall flat.

Craft a Clear Offering:
Your product or service should be easy to understand and designed for both first-time sales and repeat business.

Extra Tip: Look at your sales pages and core messages. If you had to explain them to a 15-year-old, would they understand? If not, it’s time for a refresh.

3️⃣ Take Action!

Before jumping into new marketing channels, take stock of what you already have:

  • Website

  • Social Media Profiles

  • Newsletters

  • Events

  • Other Communication Materials

Identify what’s working and optimize or cut what isn’t.
Set a primary objective along with smaller, supportive goals.
Then, build your action plan around your chosen channels with a consistent message.
And above all, measure everything—again and again.

Extra Tip: We always start by leveraging what’s already on the table before investing in new tools or channels. Your marketing budget will thank you.
